FNB Art Fair returns to Joburg this weekend, celebrating its seventh year as the definitive art fair on the continent. Since its inception in 2008, the FNB Joburg Art Fair has played a pivotal role in highlighting contemporary art in Africa and creating a space where artists, curators, writers, collectors and art lovers can gather under one roof.
The 2014 iteration of the fair features 37 exhibitors from eight different countries and, for the fourth year running, it’ll be presenting the FNB Art Prize. A curated Special Projects Programme will include Staging Reality, Documenting Fiction, a showcase of contemporary photography presented by Pirelli, Working Title: Create, Curate and Collect presented by Artlogic, Peregrinate: Field Notes on Time Travel and Space presented by the Goethe Institut, and the launch of Ponte City, a photographic book, and JustAsk! magazine.
The Talks Programme provides the opportunity to take part in different debates and dialogues on topical art-related subjects, with discussions by creatives including artist Kendell Geers, curator Joseph Gergel, artist and art historian Thembinkosi Goniwe, and writer Ivan Vladislavić.
