Donald Nxumalo – the young designer behind burgeoning brand, DNX Interior Design is featured in the November issue of House and Leisure. Nxumalo’s popularity has soared since winning Top Billing’s ‘Win a Home’ interior design series. His latest endeavour is the establishment of his first showroom in Kramerville. We asked him about his favourite design hotspots in this foremost business and design precinct in Johannesburg.
‘I love going there to create decor spaces because they’ve got really beautiful objects from all over Africa and Asia. They have a very interesting mix of lighting, I love their bangles for styling a house and also love using their brilliant juju hats, because they look very vibrant on the wall.’
‘Hertex is such a beautiful space. The staff are very friendly and willing to assist in selecting fabrics that are perfect for any job and every price range. We’ve just completed our latest project with them called A List, which is a range that encompasses African glamour.’
‘Whether it’s a child’s room or an office space, Sasi Wallpaper stocks a great range of different kinds of wallpapers for feature walls. You can walk in there when you have an emergency wallpaper situation or need wallpaper quite quickly. I have a feature wall covered in their wallpaper in my showroom.’
‘Their space is absolutely beautiful. What I really enjoy about going there is the fact that they always have well-curated pieces – it’s never difficult finding a signature piece there like the perfect sofa, which you will always need. Weylandts is perfect for the big stuff.’
‘Their ready-made cushions are perfect for last-minute shopping. They also sell the best designer and discontinued fabrics, which you can use for scatter cushions, window treatment and couches.’
