Where To Spend Heritage Day in Cape Town
The Heritage Day public holiday is next week: spend time with family and friends while also making the most of the day off at one of these special events.
Often spent outdoors with family and friends around a braai, Heritage Day celebrates our nation's cultural diversity. With this year's Heritage Day falls on a Tuesday – but of course it's also a public holiday, so here are a few events to attend on the day in the Cape Town area.

Heritage Day Braai Fest at Grande Provence
Located in the beautiful Franschoek Valley, Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate is hosting a Heritage Day Braai Fest during which you can spend the day under the shade of the oak trees on the lawns in front of the estate's Bistro.
A family-friendly event, it is the ideal escape from the city to the winelands – and a wide selection of Grande Provence wines will be available on the day along with a variety of braai specialities including artisanal boerewors, rump steak and chicken sosaties.

Celebrate Heritage Day the Lanzerac Way
Lanzerac Hotel & Spa will be hosting a heriage day event to the celebrate the diverse cultures of South Africa. In ode to 'national braai day', a variety of unique dishes cooked over open flames will be available on the day. Tapas-style fare and gourmet-style 'pub plates' will also be on offer for lunch.
Guests will be welcomed with a glass of bubbly – Lanzerac's delicious MCC – to kick off the celebrations while take in the views of the beautiful surrounding vineyards. And there's live music on offer too.
As a family-friendly event, there will be a kids' station available on the day. And if you aren't in the mood for wine, there will be an artisanal pop-up gin bar available in the Governors Hall.

Heritage Day at Moyo Kirstenbosch
Spend the day outdoors and tuck into a range of authentic African dishes at Moyo Kirstenboch as they celebrate 21 years of the Moyo brand as well as Heritage Day.
A range of mouthwatering braai meats will be available, from chicken wings and rump steak to boerewors. Ensuring that the food echoes the spirit of South Africa, a range of traditional sides will be on the menu too, including pap, roosterkoek, sweetcorn bread, chakalaka and more.
The cost of the event includes entrance to Kirstenbosch Botancal Gardens and food. After a hearty meal, take a stroll with family and friends and explore the gardens. An added extra at this event is a drumming session for kids from 12.30pm and 1.30pm.
