Structure informs Art

Photo credit: Micky Hoyle Young sculptor Rodan Kane Hart, whose home we featured in our May 2016 issue, creates work that draws from structural, industrial and architectural forms. Hailing from a thorough fine arts background, Rodan is anything but a novice. In recent years, his love for interiors has merged with his passion for art, leading him to begin Hart Design, a furniture design brand. This hasn't stopped him from working on his sculptural projects, however. He recently took part in a group exhibition at Commune 1, a small gallery on Wale Street, Cape Town that centered around the theme 'Monuments'.
'Obviously, this year and last year, monuments have been a hot topic with all the student uprisings and protests that were mobilised by the Rhodes statue coming down,' explains Thuli Gamedze of Commune 1 to Art Meets TV. '[I]t's more important to ask the question "What is the ideology behind monuments?"' Here are a few other pieces that Rodan has created:
