Africa's first annual Mindful Drinking Festival will take place at Kirstenbosch Stone Cottages in Newlands on 20 October and is a refreshing take on having a good time without any 'liquid courage'.

As the trend of non-alcoholic drinks grows across the globle, Mindful Drinking aims to provide a space for those wanting to experince the 'Sober Revolution'.

This statement by Mindful Drinking explains what prompted the idea, and the launch of this unique festival in South Africa: 'We started Mindful Drinking SA to champion the benefits of alcohol-free drinking in South Africa. Inspired by Club Soda in the UK and the Mindful Drinking Movement, we saw evidence of the global Sober Revolution starting to take place in South Africa, with a steady supply of new non-alcoholic products appearing on our shelves.'

The festival will celebrate non-alcoholic beverages produced in South Africa,  showcasing over 30 alcohol-free producers who make a range of drinks including; alcohol-free beers, wines, bubbly, botanicals, kombuchas, juices and healthy drinks.

Attendees will be able to savour a healthy bite from one of the food stalls, with vegan and vegetarian-friendly along with halaal and kosher options on offer.

Director of Mindful Drinking, Sean O'Connor, assures attendees that there is a wide range of non-alcoholic beverages available at the festival – and adds that the bonus is that they taste good.

'Alcohol-free drinks is the fastest growing beverage sector in the South Africa and there is now a huge range of options available to the public. If you don't feel like a beer or glass of wine at a social function, there are some really tasty, sexy and trendy non-alcoholic options. And people are slowly learning that it’s no bad thing to conduct yourself better, and wake up feeling fresher the next day. It’s all about being free to choose,' he says.

The Mindful Drinking Festival line up is packed with inspiring Cape Town musicians including Zolani Mahola, The Porchlights, Hatchetman, Dax Butler, the Biscuit Mill Jazz Band and Pravda.

There will be a range of entertainment including a farmyard of healthy food and blind tasting that will be led by comedian Nik Rabinowitz.

Attendees will also have a chance to learn about the new technologies behind the production of various innovative non-alcoholic drinks via a workshop that covers more details about the concept of mindful drinking, as well as alcohol-free brewing and distilling.
